Actor to Actor Class
This 22-hour course was designed to talk about the business from the actors side of the table. There are plenty of fine agents, managers, casting directors, and directors who sit on the other side of the table and can tell you about what they are looking for and how to audition.
My course deals with what it is means to be a middle class actor pounding the pavement every day looking for work. I know because I have been and continue to pound that same pavement for over 20 years. I came to New York City to attend the Juilliard School and after graduating I realized that there were things that I was very unprepared for, so I went back to my alma mater and asked if I could teach a course that addressed these issues.
"Actor to Actor" is the result of filling in the blanks of what only one actor can explain to another actor.
This course covers:
1. How to take control of your career.
2. How to look at photographs and layout at resume.
3. How to do your actor taxes.
4. How to deal with the curve balls of auditioning from our side of the table.
5. How to find affordable housing.
6. An overview of commercials and voice overs.
7. What contracts look like, and what to look for in them.
8. How do you join the unions and what are the benefits.
9. How to build a life, when your full time job is looking for work.
10. Where to seek that day job that supports you both financially and spiritually.
11. Agents and Managers, how to be apart of the team.
12. Where do you want to start your career: LA vs NY.
This is a very broad outline of the material that is covered. I aim to collaborate with theatre departments and adjust the basic ideals of this course to what their students need.

Kathleen is passionate, sympathetic, and immensely knowledgeable. I would have been completely lost this year without her class. She genuinely loves actors and acting and happens to also be incredibly savvy about "the business". I'm sure that I will continue to seek out her advice and insight well into the future!

Getting a crash course on how to survive as an actor, as well as learning who's who and what's what was an invaluable experience that I will forever carry with me. It's not often that as young artists, we are given prospective on the industry through the eyes of a working actor, and Kathleen McNenny provides her students with that.
