Scene Study Class
we do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us there is something valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.
Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit.
~E.E. Cummings
Every actor’s instrument is unique and responds to different cues when called upon. You need consistent opportunities with challenging material to realize YOUR unique potential. I will help you discover those keys that will unlock and reveal to you how to access your best work. TOGETHER we will choose material that will challenge and excite your imagination. I am interested in how the body helps actors to find the truth and classes will focus on the physical actor. Finally I believe in playful exploration where looking for the game is the joy. It is after all called putting on a play and we are the players. |

you have to understand your best.
your best isn't barrymore's best or olivier's best or my best, but your own. Every person has a norm. and in that norm every person is a star.
oliver could stand on his head and still not be you.
only you can be you.
what a privilege, nobody can reach what you can.
so do it.
we need your best!

Testimonials
“I am a professional actor with over 40 years of experience, and I am happy to say, I am still a student. There is always something to learn. Kathleen McNenny’s class has all of the elements of a first rate acting class, terrific, imaginative, stimulating exercises, sharp insightful scene study critiques, within an extremely supportive, encouraging atmosphere. I came away with renewed enthusiasm for the wonderful world of acting. Kathleen McNenny is not only an outstanding teacher, she is also a stupendous actor. She brings a deep understanding of the actor’s process. I am so grateful for my experience in her class.” Thomas Kopache (Coal Country)
" It isn't just that Kathleen brings to the classroom an infectious positive energy and a wealth of experience and insight that is unparalleled both as an actor and an educator. Kathleen is selfless in her work with other actors, which I have found to be a rarity when it comes to top-tier acting teachers. She's not interested in telegraphing onto her students what has worked for her- she's interested in the discovery of what works for each individual student, and that pursuit makes each class riveting and invaluable. She has a never-ending supply of ideas to help actors find themselves within their work. I walked out of my time with Kathleen trusting my voice as an artist for the first time, and I can pinpoint my recent success to her support and guidance. She's a treasure." Brian Drummy
“Kathleen’s workshop is a safe, supportive, inspiring space in which I feel free to explore both a character and myself with imaginative depth and clarity. She has taught me to be rigorous in my text analysis, disciplined in my craft, clear in my storytelling, free in my body, and, most of all, present with my other actors onstage. She holds actors to a high standard while remaining kind and encouraging, providing feedback that gets to the core of each individual actor’s needs. She makes every class a delight, and her love of acting and actors is contagious. I cannot recommend Kathleen's classes more highly. “ Tirosh Schneider
“Kathleen has helped me deepen my relationship to my intuition; trusting my experience while acting. Through her own ongoing and extensive professional acting work, she has developed a playful knack for giving the actor who is working simple, always positive, actionable tools with which to work; instantly opening up their rehearsal to ever more legible truthful layers. It’s a healthy, effective, and fun acting class.” Krista DeMille
“Kathleen McNenny’s resume is impressive enough, from Juilliard to Broadway and beyond, but more impressive is her ability to match an actor’s type to material that creates growth and skill for that actor. The longer you are blessed to work with her, the greater the gifts she bestows on you, of seeing types that were within you but never realized. She is a nurturing teacher with exacting standards. Its a rare honor to study with her." Jay Dunigan
“As an actor, when you study & work with Kathleen, she helps you to develop a treasure chest of skills whether you are working on Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams or Christopher Durang. You develop a rehearsal process that is second to none. From mask work to improvisation to clown work and more, I finish a 12 week class with her truly knowing the arc of my character as well as having a full immersion into the world of the play we are working on. Take. This. Class.” Ann Herberger
“Kathleen is one of the best acting teachers I've had in New York City. She understands how to meet any actor where they are in their training and create a space for them to move outside their comfort zone and truly grow as an artist. She has a unique ability to open to the door to expanding your own individual creativity and imagination, and ultimately, the most precious tools we have as actors”. Nicholas Ferrara
“Kathleen teaches you how to discover your actions in a scene, the physicality of your character, the importance of a change as a scene progresses, and how given circumstances can assist you in your character’s development. Kathleen actually teaches you how to rehearse. The fact that she does this in the most gentle way possible is just an added bonus. She “reframes” how to audition so your goal will become to “have an experience”. You get a guarantee of at least three, 45 minute rehearsals in front of class by a Juilliard Acting teacher.” Dean Seaforth
“Kathleen has simplified the unlimited world of acting into an approach that can aide the realization of any performance. Her ability to bring acting to life both emotionally and intellectually is invaluable to all levels of acting.” Nate Wise
“Kathleen connects with you in a way that's open, intuitive and instinctual. She is committed to guiding the actor to explore and reach in to their best, their worst, and their most unique traits that is so vital in this world where not enough self-exploration is done. I have come out of her class realizing parts of me that I'd never realized were there, knowing myself a little better than before, and that has made a lot of difference.” Daphne Sun

"Kathleen has a special, keen sense for identifying blocks in actors, and endless dedication and creativity in helping melt those blocks away. When you finish her class, you walk away with a deep sense of relationship to the script, your character, and especially yourself. She's hilarious, joyful, encouraging, connected to every moment of your work, curious, intelligent, and thoughtful. You'll wish the class could never end, but she'll give you the tools to get out there and go do your work as an artist." Dolly Lewis
